90 homes still expected to spend night without electricity

Update 4pm: ESSENTIAL Energy has restored power to most customers affected this morning, but crews have been unable to safely access the electricity network to restore power to approximately 90 customers in Main Arm, Mullumbimby, Upper Main Arm, Burringbar and surrounding areas, due to flooding.

A spokeswoman from the company said crews will continue to monitor and will complete repairs once safe to do so.

"Customers in those areas are not expected to have their power restored today and should enact their power contingency plans," she said.

"Essential Energy encourages customers with any medical equipment requiring electricity to operate, to make alternative arrangements now to ensure their safety and wellbeing in the event power is unable to be restored throughout the night."

Power was expected to be restored by 4.30pm to just under 600 customers in the Alstonville, Alstonvale, Goonellabah, Fernleigh, McLeans Ridges, Wollongbar and surrounding areas.

Their service was interrupted at around 2pm today due to trees falling onto powerlines on Converys Lane, Lindendale.

Affected customers can obtain outage updates from Essential Energy's outages' page at essentialenergy.com.au or call 13 20 80.

With more heavy rain predicted on the North Coast, Essential Energy reminds everyone if they see fallen or damaged powerlines to remain at least eight metres away and report to Essential Energy on 13 20 80.
