5 things to do to prepare for a weather event

ONLY recently Northern Rivers residents had to deal with a damaging east coast low, and now we're facing another weather event this weekend.

This makes for a good chance to go over what you may need to do to prepare for a weather event, whether that be storms, flooding, or even just heavy rainfall.

Here are five things to do prepare:

1. Make sure your gutters are clear and in good condition

If not, they can overflow with heavy rain or be damaged (or cause related damage to your home).

2. Make sure your family has enough food at home

You don't want to be forced to go on a supermarket/fast food run in dangerous weather - especially if that includes water over the road.

3. Make sure you have all the medications you need

Similar to above, you don't want to be needing to make a trip out if it's not safe to do so.

4. Make sure you have emergency supplies close by

Torches, candles, matches, charged up mobile phones - if things take a turn for the worst, you want to be prepared.

5. If in doubt, stay close to home (Or get out of there)

Do your research, stay up to date with the latest weather news, and trust your instincts. If you feel like your child might not be able to get home the next day if they go to that sleepover, it might be best for them to stay home. By the same token, if you feel that it's too dangerous to stay at home, head to somewhere safer.
