Action packed events in North Qld
PORT Douglas will host a triple treat to help launch the Cairns Airport Adventure Festival.
On May 27, athletes will converge on the Tropical North Queensland township to complete three unique but gruelling events in their own right.
Paddlers will set off from Palm Cove for a 40km downwind paddle, mountain bikers will leave from Mt Molloy for either a 35km or 70km trek, while triathletes will undertake varying distances and all finish on Port Douglas's main beach about the same time.
May 27 - Coral Coast Triathlons at Port Douglas (1.5km swim, 40km cycle, 10km run): Olympic distance, (750m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run) sprint distance (300m swim, 10km cycle, 2.5km run) enticer triathlons. The run leg is on the picturesque Four Mile Beach.
RRR Mountain Bike Challenge: choose between a 35km or 70km ride that includes the difficult and ultra-fast "Bump Track".
Hekili Great Barrier Reef Ocean Challenge: (40km) paddle from Palm Cove to Port Douglas for OC1s, OC2s, 6s and surf skis.
May 31 - Quicksilver Reef Swim of Green Island (1.5km or 3km).
June 1 - Cairns Post Run for Cairns (5km run/walk).
June 2 - Cairns Kids Tri: 7-10 years 50m swim/1km cycle/500m run, 11-13 years 100m swim/3km cycle/1km run, family wave 50m swim/1km cycle/500m run.
June 3 - 2.80.20 Cairns (2km swim, 80km cycle, 20km run) triathlon.
Cairns Airport Cairns Ironman (3.8km swim, 180km cycle, 42.2km run) triathlon.

For those who follow the athletes closely, you can jump aboard a Quicksilver boat to "chase the race" which takes you to Port Douglas for the bike turnaround and then returns to Cairns for the finish.
