Amanda Bynes spotted in rare public outing
HOLLYWOOD actress Amanda Bynes looks like a shadow of her former self on a rare shopping trip after vowing to make a big comeback - seven years since her last movie came out.
The 31-year-old star of She's The Man, Hairspray and What A Girl Wants looked decidedly glum as she did some food shopping with a pal, thought to be her life coach, in Los Angeles.
Wearing large specs and no make-up, the former movie starlet beared little resemblance to the young actress who shared the screen with heart-throbs Colin Firth and Channing Tatum.
With her long pale blonde hair in waves, Amanda was accompanied by life coach Joy Stevens, who reportedly never leaves her client's side.
After making her last movie Easy A in 2010 alongside Emma Stone, Amanda quit acting in 2012 - and the few years that followed were troubled to say the least.
The native Californian was hospitalised in a psychiatric ward in 2013 - after stripping to her pants in a stranger's driveway to try and put out a fire with her trousers.
Her pet pomeranian was also singed in the flames - and around the same time she posted a string of worrying tweets, including one to rapper Drake asking him to "murder [her] vagina".
She was put under her parents' care after her release from hospital but continued with her volatile behaviour, posting bizarre selfies and video clips online.
In 2013, a friend of the actress also expressed her concern that all Amanda's worries stem from "major body dysmorphia" and an obsession with weighing "100 pounds" that her own mother had encouraged.
The year before that, in April 2012, she was charged for driving under the influence - but now Amanda claims to have been sober for three years.
These new snaps come three months after Amanda gave a very positive interview saying she will return to the spotlight - her first interview in four years.
She told Good Morning America in June: "I do miss acting and I have something surprising to tell you - I'm going to start acting again."
Revealing she hopes to focus her attention to roles in TV, she added: "Maybe a few guest spots on some shows that I'm a fan of and maybe another TV show where I'm the star of it."
Since leaving the spotlight in order to focus on her personal wellbeing, Amanda also revealed she has her attentions to the fashion industry, and enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising to study her craft.
Amanda is best-known for playing Viola in 2006 rom-com She's The Man, a modern twist on William Shakespeare's gender-swapping Twelfth Night.
