"It just jumps clear out of the water": Nat Daley
UPDATE 1.30PM: "(I've) never been so scared in the water, or so grateful to have all of my brothers in on the sand safe,"
These were the words Evans Head's Nat Daley posted after a close call with a three to four metre great white shark this morning at Main Beach.
"(It) jumps clear out of the water in front of all of us 100 metres out from my two brothers and I."
Nat describes how he was in the surf and his brothers, Joel and Jye, were a little further in.
"I see (the shark's) massive fin pop out and ...then it just jumps clear out of the water," he wrote.
"As I turn to scream at Joel he sees it too and starts screaming at me and we legged it in (to shore)."
Nat said that despite being scared, he's never had more respect for Mother Nature than he does now.
"I definitely cashed in some mighty fine chips today, a proper staunch reminder of our place as surfers in the ocean," he said..
"As rocked as I am, we just need to be careful and give them their space as ultimately it's our privilege to be out there with them."
UPDATE 11am: MEMBERS of Evans Head Surf Club have helped clear the water at Main Beach after two surfers reported seeing a large shark about 10am.
Lismore police Acting Inspector Russell Ewing said two surfers reported seeing a large shark jump out of the water from a school of baitfish.
Act Insp Ewing said the two surfers were the only people to report the sighting and there was a school of dolphins spotted in the area around the same time.
The shark has not been seen for almost an hour and there are no people in the water at Evans Head's Main Beach, Insp Ewing said.
