Are you a mountain or a beach person? Take the test
DO YOU absolutely relish the view of the rolling waves? Or is the panorama of the mountains your absolute favourite? Don't be surprised if your mate just doesn't appreciate the same view that makes you let out a sigh.
According to Shige Oishi, a researcher from University of Virginia, people should consider their personalities more closely when choosing a place to live.
"Some cities and towns have geography that is more accommodating for some people than for other," Mr Oishi said.
The environment in which you live cannot alter your personality.
But apart from financial reasons or distance to things or people that matter to you, your personality actually helps you in deciding where to unpack that bag.
Let's see what your choice says about your personality. Can you already guess?
Pick the views that appeal to you and discover the answer at the bottom.
Here are some Top 10 properties with the best views in New South Wales.
Mountain view: People who love living in the mountains are said to be more prone to thinking. This view will help spark that new project idea or even finish that piece you've been writing.
Did you know that if you love this instead of beaches, you would be in the same personality category as best-selling author J.K. Rowling?
Beach view: If you love the beach, you're an entertainer! Imagine hosting a BBQ party with your mates and then taking a refreshing dip after. After all, you are living by the beach.
Beach view: They say that those who live near the beach appear to have a more affectionate personality. Imagine waking up to this breathtaking view, rolling the sliding doors away and treating your loved one to a scrumptious breakfast in bed. Does that sound like you?
Mountain view: According to research, people who like the mountains tend to be self-fulfilling but that doesn't mean you're a loner. If you love living in the mountains, you might enjoy simple and quiet things like yoga on the veranda or simply lounging by the pool with a really good book.
Green view: A personality test has revealed that someone who prefers living in the mountains than staying near the beach would also prefer having a quiet drink at home with a partner instead of going to a loud bar.
Beach view: If you love living by the beach, you are most probably warm, funny, energetic, the life and soul of any party.
Mountain view: People who prefer living up in the mountains have been revealed to also enjoy long drives, alone. If you like this view, it might mean that you enjoy the opportunity to think for a long time that comes with solo long distance driving.
Mountain view: Those who prefer mountain views are also said to enjoy things like: A long stretch of weekend time with no official plans, writing and shopping alone.
Mountain view: If you are more in your element when living in the mountains, you are more like Albert Einstein than you think. The world-renowned physicist who developed the theory of relativity did his best thinking alone:
"The monotony and solitude of a quiet life stimulates the creative mind," he once said.
Green view: Mountain dwellers are said to like to keep their ideas to themselves until they have thought them through. Beach people would rather bounce off their thoughts in a discussion.
If you like the mountains and the greens:
You tend to like quiet, secluded areas. Why is this?
The researchers say there's no evidence that living in the mountains makes you prefer your own company - but people with an introverted personality prefer to live in places where they can get some valuable alone time.
Introverts are more prone to thinking, and are thus involved in creating novel things.
Oishi cautions that more studies would be needed to determine why introverts and extroverts prefer different terrains.
One possibility, at least, is that stereotypes of the types of people who like the mountains tend to be self-fulfilling.
If you like the beach:
You're an extrovert. People who live in the flat/open condition perceive the terrain to be more sociable, exciting and stimulating.
A study found that when people want to socialise with others, they prefer the ocean far more (75%) than mountains (25%).
Individuals possessing this personality type are social, practical, appear affectionate, informal, good conversationalists, active and lively.
