Baby Zayla drowned while mum was 'distracted' by Facebook

A MOTHER has been charged after telling police her six-month-old baby daughter drowned while she was on Facebook.

Cheyenne Summer Stuckey, 21, reportedly told investigators she left tiny Zayla Hernandez unsupervised in the bath with the water running at her home in Reno, Texas.

When she remembered Zayla, Stuckey said allegedly told police she rushed to the bathroom but found the baby unresponsive and floating face down.

Stuckey said she attempted to resuscitate the infant, but "did not know how," police allege.

Dallas News reports the infant was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead while the other children in the home - two four-year-old girls and a two-year-old boy were placed in foster care.

Stuckey was arrested on Wednesday afternoon and charged with injury to a child and is awaiting a bail hearing.

The New York Post reports she told police she became "distracted" by another child after leaving the bathroom and then hopped onto Facebook with a television blaring in the background.

At that point, investigators say she realized she had forgotten about her daughter.

"Please keep the family and friends in your deepest thoughts and prayers during this fragile time as they struggle to deal with the loss of beautiful baby Zayla," the GoFundMe page reads. "No donation is too small, each and every donation will be greatly appreciated to help prepare to lay their Angel to rest."
