TWO Ballina RSL Youth Club boxers have won southeast Queensland titles, and will at the end of this month by vieing for State titles north of the border.
Aaron Tremayne won the 35kg division, while Kyel Salt took out the 65 kg division at the southeast Queensland titles, held at the Parkwood Tavern.
Tremayne, aged 11, made a big impact in the third round of his bout against southpaw boxer, M Kellman from the Gold Coast.
Cornerman Bevan Connor said the first round was close, with both boxers throwing combinations.
But Connor said Tramayne moved well and landed a number of straight right hand, left hook combintations to win the round on points.
The second round could have gone either way, Connor said, but the third round was all Tremayne's, landing the right hand, left hook combinations with ease.
Salt, aged 22, also took charge in the third round of his fight against J Nicols from Brisbane to win the fight convincingly.
Connor said he started slowly in the first round, but started landing straight combinations in the second, dominating his opponent.
The boxers are coached by Nick Pozoglou, Brandon Higgins, with Connor as the cornerman.
Connor said they have been impressed by the dedication and hard work of Tremayne and Salt.
The Queensland Novice Titles will be held at the end of this month.
The southeast Queensland titles had 60 fights, which is about double the number of bouts at other tournaments.
