Soccer: Ballina forced to rebuild in first division

AFTER two years back in the top flight, Ballina will play its final game in Far North Coast premier league soccer tonight before being relegated again.

The Seahorses will host Bangalow at 8pm.

A 3-all draw with Casino last week condemned Ballina to the wooden spoon, leaving them four points behind Bangalow after the Bluedogs racked up their first win, a 1-0 victory over Alstonville.

Ballina is still chasing its first win and after a disappointing season will now look at rebuilding in first division next year.

Bangalow's young side has steadily improved this season and despite finishing second last, will be all the better for the experience.

Ballina's place will go to first division minor premiers Italo Stars, with the North Lismore club returning to the premier ranks after a two-year absence.
