Beat festive chaos with early attacks
CHRISTMAS is still months away but savvy shoppers know July is the best month to buy toys.
With a survey commissioned by Kmart revealing Aussie mums spend an average of $1160 on toys a year, it’s easy to see why parents everywhere are taking advantage of the massive toy sales under way at major retailers, including Big W, Myer and Kmart.
“This is a great time of year for mums to get organised for birthdays and Christmas,” Kmart managing director Guy Russo said.
“Mums have told us that they often break their budget when buying toys for their kids. At Kmart, we aim to ease this pressure by offering nearly half (49%) of the toys in the catalogue at $20 or less,” Mr Russo said.
In two weeks, Target will launch its Australia’s Biggest Toy Sale catalogue.
Target business manager of toys, leisure and books, Lisa Sweeney, said the sale would include discounted prices on the latest must-have toys and popular brands.
For pre-school aged children, Ms Sweeney named Fisher Price’s Laugh and Learn range of toys as one of the most popular products.
“...the new interactive Dinosaur Train figures, from the Jim Henson television series, are also a must have item with this age group,” Ms Sweeney said.
For young girls she listed Zhu Zhu Pets as a “hot item” and for boys she said “Light Strike- at home laser tag, the Star Wars Force Tech Ultimate Light Sabre, which is the most realistic light sabre to date and the Hawkeye Remote Control Helicopter with camera will all be must haves”.
To help parents take advantage of the sales and stockpile toys, retailers were also giving shoppers the option to place sale items on Christmas lay-by.
“During Australia’s Biggest Toy Sale families can take advantage of extended lay-by until Christmas Eve, which is not only a great way to hide presents, but also allows customers to spread out payments over almost six months,” Ms Sweeney said.
This year, Big W was giving shoppers added convenience, allowing them to shop for toys and create a lay-by online.
