From hippie to hipster on foodie trail
THE Sunshine Coast hinterland hamlet of Maleny has long been recognised as hippies' heaven, but look a little closer and you'll find it's also foodies' paradise.
Sip a Campos Coffee and watch the passing parade from a footpath table or grab a freshly baked scone and settle in the sunny courtyard with shade sails to diffuse the sun and crocheted lap rugs to stave off the chill. A wholesome breakfast menu runs until 2pm with free-range eggs, organic oats, house made condiments, local honey and seasonal produce. A rotating selection of pies, toasties and salads - all made on site - fill the front cabinet.

If you time your visit right, you can see this boutique cheese and yoghurt factory in action. Watch from a glass viewing platform as cow and buffalo milk mozzarella is made, sample a range of infused cheddars and fetas and take home a tub of the dreamy, creamy apple and cinnamon yoghurt. The menu at the onsite Maleny Cheese Cafe runs from raclette and fondue to open grilled sandwiches and cheesy tarts.

Grab a caffeine hit from Coffee Shack or Sherpa Kitchen, treat yourself to gluten-free doughnuts or French crepes or chow down on German sausages, Indian curry, Japanese gyoza, Greek souvlaki or Maleny pies. Saturday night markets are held monthly.
