Toowoomba city hits bone chilling -7 as winds howl in

IT'S not snowing in Toowoomba but it sure feels like it.

The temperature plummeted to 0.7 degrees at 6.30am this morning but the apparent temperature was a bone chilling -6.9 degrees.

Wind is keeping the temperature low.

Forecasters say the winds are blowing westerly 35 to 50 km/h tending southwesterly and will be 35 to 45 km/h in the middle of the day before decreasing to 25 to 35 km/h in the late evening.

With snowfall in the Stanthorpe region some are questioning whether Toowoomba will get a downfall.

The Bureau of Meteorology says that's unlikely but says towns above 600m in the Granite Belt could get snow.

Toowoomba is about 700m above sea level.

It is expected to reach a maximum of 11 degrees in the Garden City today.
