Brace of doubles seals deal
FOUR runs batted in by Oakley McMahon helped Workers get past Brothers 14-2 in Far North Coast Major League baseball on Saturday.
McMahon drove in runs with doubles in the first and fifth innings.
Workers led in the first innings, scoring on a walk, a double by McMahon and a ground-out, after the Brothers starting pitcher Sam Martin had to be replaced.
Workers scored seven runs in the fifth innings thanks to hits from Seth McClelland, Michael McClelland, Noah Worgan and McMahon.
Worgan started on the mound for Workers. He threw three innings, giving up one run, no hits and striking out two.
Michael McClelland relieved Worgan, earning the win with four innings, giving up one run, three hits and striking out two.
Corey Wilford took the loss for Brothers. He pitched four-and-a-third innings, conceding 13 runs and 10 hits.
Workers' 11 hits included multiple hits to Michael McClelland, McMahon and Williams.
Easts defeated Norths 11-9 in a back-and-forth affair.
Easts collected 15 hits while Norths had 10 in a high-scoring game that was tied at 9-all going into bottom of the eighth.
Cooper Thomson started on the mound for Easts. He pitched four-and-two-thirds innings, giving up four runs, four hits and striking out five.
Mark Robb started the game for Norths, pitching four innings, giving up five runs, seven hits and striking out four.
McNiff, Steele, Johnson and Brodie Olive each collected multiple hits for Easts, while O'Sullivan (three hits from five at bats) and Britt were Norths' best with the bat.
WORKERS took the lead late in the game in a 13-6 victory over Brothers in Division 1.
It was 6-all with Workers batting in the bottom of the fourth innings when Brend- an Clark drove in two runs.
James Kerr took the win, pitching five innings, giving up six hits, six runs and striking out five.
In the other game, Easts thrashed Norths 23-1, including a game-defining 12-run fourth innings.
The big innings was driven by singles to Josh Healy and Greg Healy, doubles to Brodie Olive and Matt Davis, and a single and grand slam home run to Dylan Olive.
Far North Coast baseball is played at Albert Park in Lismore on Saturdays, with juniors in the mornings and seniors in the afternoon.
