Brandis's claim falls over

LABOR'S battle to access Attorney-General George Brandis's ministerial diary is over, with it showing no evidence Senator Brandis (pictured) met with community legal centres before significant cuts to their funding as he claimed.

Shadow attorney-general Mark Dreyfus applied under freedom of information laws for access in 2014. Requests are meant to be dealt with in a month, but that can be extended if the information is complex - this request has taken more than 1000 days.

"This has been a monumental waste of everyone's time, and as we expected there is no evidence that George Brandis consulted anybody before he embarked on his cuts to Community Legal Centres, to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Centres, and completely cutting the funding to Environmental Defenders Office,” Mr Dreyfus said.
