Car goes up in flames in West Mackay

UPDATE 5.15PM: AUTHORITIES have given the all clear to the public after a vehicle fire near the Bruce Highway prompted 000 calls. 

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said crews called to a car fire in grassland off Hume St. 

She said fire crews had been able to quickly extinguish the grass fire that resulted from the vehicle fire.

"(The car fire) was out before we got there," she said. 

Three fire trucks, two tow trucks and police were present at the small fire next to the Mackay Junior Motocross track.

That section of Hume St runs under the Bruce Highway.  

BREAKING 4.30PM: EMERGENCY services are responding to reports of a car on fire in West Mackay.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said two crews arrived at the corner of Hume St and the Bruce Highway at 4.30pm to extinguish the vehicle fire. 

Initial reports indicate a vehicle is on fire, in a cane paddock on Hume Street.

No one is believed to be in the vehicle.

Police and fire crews are en route.
