Bushrangers told to stand and deliver

VICTORIAN opener Rob Quiney says he and his teammates know what is needed if the Bushrangers are to have any chance of reaching Sunday's Ryobi Cup final against Queensland, let alone win it.

Someone needs to stand tall and deliver a big match-winning innings in today's all-or-nothing elimination final against New South Wales at North Sydney Oval for a start.

The Vics lost two of the six games they played in the round-robin stage of the tournament thanks in part to stunning individual performances with the bat by Queensland Bulls all-rounder Ben Cutting and NSW opener David Warner.

Cutting smashed an unbeaten 98 off just 48 balls in Queensland's 26-run victory last week while Warner hammered 138 off 111balls in the Blues seven-wicket win on Sunday.

Quiney said now is the time for someone in his side to produce something similar if they are to keep alive their hopes of avenging last season's two-run loss in the final against Queensland.

Quiney has scored 49, 65, 59, 37 and 11 in his five games (he missed one through injury), but said he and his fellow batsmen were disappointed that no one had kicked on once they had got a start.

"The wickets have been really flat so it's our own fault we are in the situation we are now," said Quiney, who played two Tests against South Africa last summer.

"We are all hitting the ball well but that counts for nothing if you cannot convert that into a match-winning performances like Cutting and Warner did.

"We really need someone to really put their hand up do what they (Cutting and Warner) did, stand up and make it really count.

"I'd love to do it for sure and the other boys in the top-order are feeling the same."

Quiney, the 2011-12 Australian Domestic Player of the Year, is playing his first tournament since he returned home from England in May after shoulder surgery put an end to his stint playing county cricket with Essex.
