Canadian-born Bester may be best, but Teys still topped him
CANADIAN international Ryan Bester, beaten spectacularly by Ballina-born 20-year-old Aaron Teys in the Australian Open singles, has shot to the top of the latest national rankings.
He is number one on 368.5 points and gets $3000 as Aero Bowls Bowler of the Year.
Young Teys is number six on 206 points. The rankings race involved 1606 men.
Bester, regarded by many as in the best form of his life, this year won the Broadbeach Blue Diamond pairs, the Queensland state singles and the Tweed Heads Golden Nugget singles, was second in the Ballina Summerland singles and third in the South Lismore Classic pairs, among other successes, which makes Teys' performance in the Australian Open win all the more commendable.
In the national rankings, Ballina club co-ordinator Kris Lehfeldt is number nine on 160 points.
Ian "Tails" Taylor, of Tweed-Byron, has slumped from being a front runner to number 16 (142 points).
