Businesses called on to sponsor first Ballina Prawn Festival
BUSINESSES are now being called on to sponsor the inaugural Ballina Prawn Festival.
The festival, also celebrating the 40th anniversary of the arrival of the Las Balsas rafts to Ballina from Ecuador, will be held on November 16.
Nadia Eliott-Burgess, executive officer of the Ballina Chamber of Commerce, is co-ordinating the festival.
She wrote in the festival prospectus that the Ballina Prawn Festival would be an "iconic celebration of the rich character and unique features of Ballina, home of the Big Prawn".
"This event will bring together thousands of local residents with visitors from throughout the Northern Rivers and beyond."
Already on the festival program are prawn shelling, cooking and eating competitions, as well as raft-building contests.
Meanwhile, the scaffolding is up at the Big Prawn on the Bunnings Warehouse site at West Ballina in preparation for the installation of the tail on the giant crustacean.
Sponsorship packages for the Prawn Festival are available on 6681 5049.
