Club legend returns as Stars coach
ITALO Stars supporters will hope their promotion back into Far North Coast premier league soccer will trigger a return to their glory days under the guidance of incoming coach Stuart Harris.
A club legend at Stars, Harris last coached the team in 2003 when they took out the premiership double, becoming the last side to complete an undefeated season.
But Harris is under no illusions as to how difficult his task will be.
"It's way too early to be making any predictions about how we'll go, we just want to consolidate our place back in the premier league and get a bit of respect back for the club," he said.
"What we need most is simply more players to boost our depth."
While stalwarts such as Clint Willoughby, Rick Austen, Trent Battistuzzi and Jeremy Pollard bring a wealth of experience, Harris is well aware they need new blood.
As a result, he has invited any interested players to attend training on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm at the club's Barrow Lane field in North Lismore.
Not having coached since 2003, Harris is realistic.
"The landscape has changed a lot since I was last around but I'm looking forward to the challenge," he said.
"I watched a few games last year and got the bug to be involved again."
