CORY Monteith's body was cremated on Tuesday (16.07.13).

The 'Glee' star's funeral took place in Vancouver, Canada, following a private wake that was attended by his heartbroken girlfriend Lea Michele, 26, and his family, including his older brother Shaun, but his father Joe Monteith is devastated that he was not invited.

Joe told gossip website that he was only informed about his son's cremation after it took place and is "totally devastated" that he wasn't invited to view Cory's body for the last time.

He added: "I always loved both my sons and am going to miss Cory very very much. I'm saddened at the fact that I couldn't have been there to see my son before he was cremated."

Sources said that Cory's mother, Ann, decided to hold a wake for the 31-year-old actor, who was found dead in his hotel room in the city on Saturday (13.07.13) after he accidentally overdosed from heroin and alcohol, in the hospital after his body was released following an autopsy on Tuesday.

She then immediately decided to have her son cremated.

Her ex-husband Joe said he is "shocked" that Cory was taking heroin, despite the late actor previously admitting he had struggled with addiction since he was a teenager and he would take "anything and everything, as much as possible."

Glee cast staged intervention about Cory Monteith's drug relapse

The 'Glee' cast allegedly staged an intervention for Cory Monteith before his death.

The late star was confronted by his friends from the musical TV show about his addictions earlier this year, and they encouraged him to go back to rehab for the second time in March.

The group staged an "open conversation" with the actor about his apparent relapse and he is said to have been receptive to their help.

A source told "It wasn't met with resistance ... He was always so grateful and aware of how fortunate he was.

"The decision was to best help our friend. The needs of the show fell second to his well-being."

Despite checking into a treatment facility for 30 days, the 31-year-old actor was unable to overcome his struggles and was found by staff at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in Vancouver, Canada, after he missed his checkout time.

Cory's girlfriend and co-star Lea Michele, 26, is said to be "absolutely inconsolable" and "devastated beyond belief".

The 'Glee' cast - who include Chris Colfer, Matthew Morrison and Jane Lynch - were previously reported to have helped Cory stay sober while he was shooting the show in Los Angeles, but when he returned to his hometown of Vancouver "alcohol and drugs were always involved."
