Couple fight off armed men in alleged home invasion
A BLI Bli couple used garden tools to fight off a group of men who allegedly stormed their home and threatened them with guns, police say.
A 26-year-old man has been charged and at least two others are still on the run after a group allegedly entered a home on Willis Rd on May 14 armed with firearms.
Sunshine Coast CIB officer-in-charge Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards said the men allegedly broke into the home and threatened a man and woman inside to hand over some property.
He said the occupants "fought back" with garden tools, but police believed the woman was hit over the head with a gun before the men fled the scene.
Snr-Sgt Edwards said the woman suffered a cut to her head but was otherwise uninjured.
Police arrested Xian Pietro Pedretti at Nambour on Sunday after he was spotted on Hospital Rd and allegedly fled on foot, sparking a large-scale pursuit involving PolAir and the dog squad.
He was charged with one count each of burglary with violence in company while armed, assault occasioning bodily harm while armed in company, wilful damage, obstruct police and three counts of possessing a dangerous drug.
Mr Pedretti's matter was mentioned in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today and adjourned to July 17 for a committal mention.
He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.
Police are still searching for two other men believed to be involved in the alleged attack, plus another person who was outside the home.
