Deadly pub fire sparked in upstairs accommodation
A REPORT will be prepared for the coroner after the deadly fire at Pittsworth's Tattersalls Club Hotel in which charity worker Steven Green, 26, died.
Darling Downs Inspector Dave Isherwood said scientific and forensic examiners would scour the rubble over the coming days to determine the cause of the early morning fire which was not being treated as suspicious.
"It has been declared a crime scene because at this point in time we don't know what the cause of the fire was," he said.
"Statements have been taken from the residents and witnesses.
"It will just take its usual course of investigation and eventually a brief will be prepared for the coroner."
He said first responding officers were alerted to the fact one of the 12 people staying at the hotel was missing within minutes of arriving on scene.
"Unfortunately the building was so well alight; emergency crews couldn't get to that location.
"I will hasten to add there is information it would appear at this stage it may not be a suspicious fire. It could have been some fault within the building itself (but) it's too early to determine.
"It would appear the fire started in that accommodation section upstairs but it's going to take some time."
