Drones failed to stop drug raids

A DRUG cartel tried to use drones to outfox police, but officers seized more than $30million of cocaine and $580,000 in 12 raids in Melbourne on Thursday night.

Seven men were arrested.

The Spirit of Shanghai arrived in Victoria from Panama on Monday carrying a container with three black duffel bags inside.

Australian Federal Police Commander John Beveridge said 92kg of cocaine was in the bags.

He told reporters of a long investigation that showed criminals were getting smarter.

"They used aerial drones to run counter-surveillance on investigators while conducting their meetings,” he said.

Four of the seven are Australian, two are Canadian and one is British. They have been remanded in custody to face court charged with drug trafficking and money laundering offences.
