Explore the Top Gun world at Aviation Expo
TOP gun pilots will put their jet fighter flying skills on show for the inaugural Aviation Unlimited Information Expo at the Lismore Aerodrome this weekend.
The aim of the expo is to showcase our region's high flying aviation industry and propel interest in aviation as a career or hobby more generally.
The expo is a joint initiative between the Northern Rivers Aero Club and the Lismore City Council.
Lismore City Council commercial services coordinator Kevin Trustum said the expo was part of a larger council plan to promote and expand the aviation industry in Lismore.
"Council is working with our local aviation industries and aero club to look at how we can promote the general aviation area at the airport and grow it as a business hub and a tourism opportunity for aviation training," he said.
"The expo is showcasing all of that.
"In council's longer term we're looking at raising the profile of the facility, opening more blocks of land so we can grow opportunities here and also assist the businesses here with promotion and growing their businesses."
The expo will feature jet fighter adventure flights, static aircraft displays, drone demonstrations, talks from pilots and engineers and Defence Force recruitment exhibitions.
Some of the talks will include Evans Head Memorial Aerodrome pilot Sam Todhunter on flying the Canberra bomber in peace and war, Northern Rivers Aero Club president Bill Kiernan on about getting started in aviation and Colin Newlove about what can be achieved with drones.
Organisers will request a gold coin donation for entry to Aviation Unlimited which will go to Mates4Mates to support injured or ill current and ex-serving ADF members.
