Extra time for submissions

DEVELOPERS of Kings Forest are not concerned about an extension to the submission date for stage one of a 4500-lot development.

The NSW Department of Planning has not extended the exhibition dates of the development but would accept late submissions up to January 25.

Leda Developments regional manager (residential) Reg Van Rij said the move of the deadline by a month was a matter for the Department of Planning.

"Considering the scope of the application and the time of the year the department decided to extent the submission period," Mr Van Rij said.

"This happens quite often when the department gets requests to extend the submission period."

Mr Van Rij said LEDA had no problem with the extension.

A Department of Planning spokesman said the exhibition period for the project has not been 'formally extended'.

"However, given the amount of documentation contained as part of the environmental assessment and the time of year being close to the Christmas and New Year holiday period, the department will accept late submissions up until 25 January, 2012," the spokesman said.

"A note to this effect has been published on the department's website."

This is not the first time the Kings Forest development was being considered by the department; a concept plan for Kings Forest was completed in 2009.

"A total of 1,385 public submissions were received during the exhibition period for the concept plan application exhibited from December, 2008 until February, 2009," the spokesman said.

"A further 1,700 submissions were received after the close of exhibition, of which approximately 70% were form letters."

Northern Rivers Guardians spokeswoman Andrea Vickers said the group had asked for an extension until February 23.
