Fullback Dean Wilson shines bright for City at Rugby Park

LISMORE fullback Dean Wilson scored two tries and produced his best game of the season as the Greens trounced Ballina 38-18 in their Far North Coast Rugby Union clash.

City were always going to be hard to beat after taking a 21-8 lead into half-time at Lismore Rugby Park on Saturday.

"I was happy with the way we controlled the game," Lismore coach Craig Whitby said.

"I think our experience in the backs was the difference because it was a pretty even battle in the forwards.

"It's good to play a well-structured team like Ballina and see where we're at."

Wilson has now scored six tries in his first season at the club.

He linked with Lismore after arriving from Narrabri to attend Southern Cross University.

"That was his best game of the season for sure," Whitby said.

"He's fast and elusive and backed himself a bit more than he has in other games."

While Wilson starred on the scoreboard, the back-row of Nigel Marshall, Angus MacDougall and Glen Paisley were the best for Lismore.

Second-rower Todd Grono and No.8 Sean Grace tried hard for Ballina while fullback Joe Jansson also impressed.

In other games, Bangalow registered their first win of the season with an emphatic 53-7 result against Casino at the Bangalow Sports Ground.

Wingers Jake Brumley and Chris Bleakley bagged try-scoring doubles in the eight-tries-to-one romp.

Winger Kurt Adams scored the Bulls' only try.

Elsewhere, Lennox Head remain unbeaten after a 22-12 win against the Grafton Redmen at Grafton Rugby Park.

Flanker Harry Witt bagged a double with second-rower Mick Muir also crossing the line despite receiving a yellow card for his part in an on-field fracas.

And Byron Bay thumped Southern Cross University 78-0 at the Byron Recreation Ground.

Fullback Jascha Saeck and front-rower Craig Wallace scored three apiece.
