Fundraiser for leukemia patient
ABOUT 30 locals will lose their locks next Saturday at Southside Agencies in a major fundraising event for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Southside's service manager, Mark Robinson, said the hair-razing event is to repay the foundation "in some small way for what it has done for us".
"Our daughter, Allie was diagnosed with the disease on December 23 last year," he said.
"At the start, I was a mess; my wife, Chloe was dealing with losing her dad to cancer and then things snowballed when we were told about Allie.
"Did we have four days, a month? We didn't know and they couldn't tell us; it wasn't easy.
"We were flown to Brisbane and Chloe's still there. Allie has a portacath for the chemo and, for the past five weeks has endured lumbar punctures. She is two-and-a-half.
"The foundation is paying for therapy to keep Allie active, our accommodation at Mincom Village, everything.
"So, Chloe and I have created Allie's Monsters under World's Greatest Shave; it's the least we can do."
A huge raffle is being run in conjunction with the event.
First prize is valued at $900 with tickets, priced at $2 each, 3/$5, or 8/$10.
They're available from Southside Agencies, Krauss Ave, South Lismore and will be available on and after the day.
There will be a V8 modified race car display, a jumping castle, barbecue and face painting on the day.
The event will take place at Southside Agencies, on Saturday, March 17 from 9 am.
Anyone prepared to lose their locks can contact Mr Robinson at Southside on 6627 6080.
