RUGBY LEAGUE: Four clubs from the TJRL enjoyed the inaugural Walker's Weekend Challenge.

Valleys, Brothers, Southern Suburbs and Pittsworth all took part in the U12 carnival at Herb Steinhort Oval.

Originally scheduled for the Easter weekend, the carnival had to be postponed due to COVID, however that didn't stop the enthusiasm of participants.

Named after the Walker brothers, co-ordinator Lennie Currie said the carnival's inaugural staging was a success.

"Originally we had 16 teams nominated in Easter from Murgon, Charleville, Nanango and Brisbane, but only Toowoomba teams were allowed due to COVID," Currie said.

"I don't think some clubs knew how big it would be.

"We started with a march past with all the clubs to kick the day off, and finished off with relays and war cries.

"Ben (Walker) rang me on Sunday night and couldn't believe how good it was. He wants to become more involved."

Souths won the Trish and Garry Walker Spirit award.
