Gilt-edge invitations to ride in Lismore Cup
SOME of the region’s top jockeys, including former Melbourne Cup winners Chris Munce and Scott Seamer, will be given gilt-edge invitations to return and ride in this year’s Lismore Cup.
Lismore Turf Club secretary Michael Timbrell said it would be a huge drawcard if they could lure the history-making hoops back to their home turf.
“If you look at Chris Munce and Scott Seamer they are two local boys made good,” he said.
“They’ve both won Lismore Cups and gone on to win Melbourne Cups later in their career, so we think that is fantastic plus for the industry in this area and we want to honour those blokes but also have them support us.
“Those guys bring people through the gates and they also create TAB turnover through punters across the State because people are more likely to have a bet on a top class jockey they know rather than one of the battling country jockeys.”
Seamer confirmed yesterday that he would like to race at the Lismore Cup on September 24 if he ‘got a ride’.
“I’m more than likely to be riding on Lismore Cup day and there’s no doubt if I get a ride I’d like to support the cup,” he said.
Timbrell said he had informally spoken to members of Chris Munce’s family and would sound out his manager this week.
