Governor meets our queens
“BRIGHT, bubbly and beautiful” was how the Governor of NSW described our Beef Week Queen contestants.
His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d) was on hand to meet our contestants at the Casino RSM before officially crowning the winner on Saturday night.
There were petite smiles, quaint courtesies and polite words uttered as the Governor was introduced to each of the potential winners of the Beef Week event. His introduction to the iconic Casino event followed a surprise visit to 150 students at Casino Public School on Thursday and an announcement about women’s heart health linked to The Heart Foundation’s national campaign.
Students at Casino Public School got to see some items from the Governor’s house including a sword belonging to the 33rd Governor of New South Wales and a regal dinner setting, as well as participate in the State Library’s dynamic FAR Out! program.
The Governor said his task was to listen to people and make key observations.
“I like joining the dots and I see myself as a conduit for conversations,” he said. “Rural New South Wales has islands of brilliance and sometimes we have to connect them.
“Really, they are such vibrant communities.
“There are all sorts of pressures on rural communities at this time as we are going through a process of significant change.”
