Is this the cheapest house in Australia?
THIS time last year, Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce made headlines when he told Australians who couldn't afford to buy a home to get out of the big cities and move to the country, where property is more affordable.
If you fancy taking Joyce's advice on board, have we got a deal for you.
It's being touted as the "cheapest house in Victoria," but this property at 28 Glen Street, Walpeup is easily one of the cheapest houses in the country at a price tag of $55-$60k.

"Where the hell is Walpeup?" we hear you cry. "How do I even pronounce that?"
It's undeniable that you'll have to compromise a little on location at this price. Walpeup is a one hour drive from the regional township of Mildura, a five-hour drive from Melbourne, or three hours and 45 minutes from Adelaide.

According to the listing page on realestate.com.au, the 2000 sqm property features a main house with two bedrooms, a large lounge room, separate dining and kitchen area, study/storage room, gas heating, evaporative cooling and ceiling fans in all rooms.

There is also a separate 1-bedroom bungalow at the back of the property with an en suite.
Set in a bush setting, it also features "a large undercover entertainment area and established gardens".

Listing agent Peter Gordon told realestate.com.au that there has been a lot of interest in the home, particularly from Melbourne buyers looking for a "tree change".
"They can sell their $400,000 house in Melbourne, buy something up here for $65,000 and have money to spare," he said.
"I live in Mildura and would happily live in Walpeup; it's a great community and a beautiful bush setting."

It's not the only bargain in Walpeup.
$63,500 will get you this three-bedroom home, which is directly across the road at number 29 Glen Street. Why not get a mate to buy one, you buy the other and start your own little country commune?

If you want to go further afield, there are currently four other houses in other states that you can buy for under $60,000 ...
