Hope still blooming in the form of lovingly made quilt
ASK Kay Wilson why she worked so hard on the 'Hope Blooms Here' quilt and she will tell you the fight against cancer is a personal one.
For three months the Dyraaba resident worked on the quilt with design input from her good friend and neighbour Annette Benn, who is undergoing treatment for bone cancer.
"My dad passed away from stomach cancer about 25 years ago and my mother-in-law passed away from breast cancer when she was only 56," Ms Wilson said.
"My father-in-law also passed away from bowel cancer, so we are very conscious of cancer and how it can devastate a family.
"That's why this cause is very close to our hearts."
In May 2017 one lucky person will be the proud owner of the beautiful 'Hope Blooms Here' quilt which won first prize at the Casino Show.
Ms Wilson sourced all her materials from Summerland Textiles in Casino where the quilt is now on display for all to admire.
The quilt features the colours of Relay For Life, yellow and purple.
The daffodils are the international symbol of hope while the purple signifies survivorship.
This special quilt is the first prize in the raffle for the 2017 Casino Relay For Life.
Other prizes in the raffle include a Fender Strat guitar signed by Ian Moss donated by Casino Toys Pools and Music, a $100 gift card, $100 voucher to Dolphin Marine Magic in Coffs Harbour, a Sunbeam Citrus press juicer and a Sunbeam 'Beatermix' hand mixer donated by Chandlers Betta Home Living.
Casino Relay For Life committee chair, Renai Gardner thanked fellow committee members Ms Wilson and Ms Benn for the special quilt - a perfect prize to win in time for Mother's Day 2017.
"This quilt highlights the incredibly generous people we have in our community who are willing to give up so much of their time to create something that will be so treasured, and will help to raise funds for a cause that is so close to many of us," Ms Gardner said.
Tickets in the raffle are $2 each and can be purchased in Casino at Summerland Textiles or Casino Toys Pools and Music shop.
