Cutters player a job real estate agent by day
RUGBY LEAGUE: Ben Jones has two tough jobs, on and off the field.
A former Sydney Roosters and North Queensland Cowboys player with 35 NRL matches of experience, Jones has become a leader of the young Mackay Cutters after joining mid-season.
Off the field, he sells real estate in a tough Mackay region market.
Neither job is easy, he said, but the 25-year-old enjoys the challenge.
"I've just started out (in real estate) and still learning and I'm looking forward to getting better at it," Jones said.
"It keeps my mind off footy when it needs to be."
In good playing form, Jones knows this Saturday's derby with the Northern Pride is crucial.
"The loss on the weekend was really disappointing so we have a big game on (Saturday)," he said.
"It's always a big game against the Pride and something I'm looking forward to."
He admitted it took him a while to regain fitness after playing in France.
Cutters coach Kim Williams said Jones's progress had been good and the centre had been one of the team's best in the past few weeks.
"Ben was a great pick-up for us," Williams said. "He's a good bloke and fits into the team environment well."
To remain in the finals hunt, the Cutters must beat the Northern Pride.
Brenden Treston returns from a wrist injury and Buchanan Rawhiti replaces Zack Walker. Joss Boyton and Ryan Kinlyside also return to the squad.
