Kids to fight domestic violence

MRS Australia Universe Joelle Webber from Angourie, around an hour and a half south of Lismore, will launch a school-based anti-domestic violence campaign in Evans Head tomorrow.

Mrs Webber said the campaign will encourage students, or White Ribbon Warriors, at Evans River Community School to speak up against domestic violence.

"It aims to prevent the occurrence of domestic violence by providing early education and support strategies," she said.

"Students will have a brief education session... be provided with a white ribbon... and asked to become White Ribbon Warriors by marking their face with white paint for the day."

Mrs Webber will also talk about her own experiences with domestic violence during the afternoon assembly, and explain that "everyone is there to help them, and if they're exposed to domestic violence what they can do to help themselves or help somebody they know".

Mrs Webber plans to expand the campaign to other schools.
