Lismore Relay for Life tally nears $100k
WALKERS and swimmers are set to raise $100,000 at the Lismore and Villages Relay for Life on the weekend, as donations still flood in.
Lismore and Villages Relay For Life committee chairman Craig Beck said 820 people from 61 teams, and squads of swimmers, paced around the oval and followed the black line on the bottom of the Southern Cross University pool from 3pm on Saturday until 9am on Sunday.
"I just love the way that Lismore embraces this event," Mr Beck said.
"At this stage of our accounting we have raised $80,000, but fundraising will still go on for another couple of weeks and we are very confident that we will get over the $100,000 mark," he said.
"Teams can continue their fundraising for another two weeks and a lot of the teams haven't banked all that they have raised, so we won't know a final tally until then.
"We set our goal online at $110,000 and we hope we can achieve that, but we are very mindful that there are many charities that people donate to."
