Looking for work? You can help with the election
THE Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) employs about 70,000 polling officials for each federal election.
The AEC also maintains a register of interest which may be accessed to fill other temporary positions throughout the periods between elections, and the commission is now seeking to develop a pool of staff for casual roles in readiness for the election.
Temporary employees may be engaged for short periods of time for specific electoral activities in the following categories:
- Temporary office assistants
- Polling officials
- Voter information officers
For more information on these positions, go to www.aec.gov.au and follow the links to Temporary & Election Employment.
You can submit a registration of interest online through the AEC Employment System
Alternatively, you can download a registration of Interest form and return it to your AEC divisional office.
This is an open expression of interest, therefore there is currently no application close date.
All applications will be used to develop a pool of potential staff for future use.
Anyone who applies may be contacted by telephone, email or SMS.
The temporary employees engaged to assist with an electoral event may be required to undertake a character clearance.
Any person who is, or is seen to be active in political affairs, and intends to publicly carry on this activity, may compromise the strict neutrality of the AEC and cannot be considered.
