Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez says there is still plenty of work to be done despite his team moving out of the English Premier League's relegation zone with a 1-0 home victory over Crystal Palace.

The Magpies face Aston Villa away next week and finish the season at home against Spurs.

"We still have to play another two games," Benitez said.

"We will enjoy this weekend because we won and then we will focus on the next one against Aston Villa, which will be a tough one."

Newcastle is a point clear of Sunderland in the last relegation place and two clear of Norwich City thanks to Andros Townsend's spectacular free-kick and Karl Darlow's superb save to deny Yohan Cabaye's penalty kick.

Sunderland had top scorer Jermain Defoe to thank for getting a point at Stoke.

Marko Arnautovic put the Potters 1-0 up, but Defoe kept his nerve in second-half stoppage time after being fouled by Jeff Cameron to earn a crucial point.

Norwich, meanwhile, slipped up at Arsenal, going down 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal from substitute Danny Welbeck.

Relegated Aston Villa looked like getting only its fourth win of the season when it led 2-1 at Watford with 17 minutes remaining.

But Aly Cissokho was then sent off before Watford skipper Troy Deeney scored twice in second-half stoppage time to secure the victory.

West Ham moved to fifth with a 3-0 success at West Brom with skipper Mark Noble scoring twice.

Everton had its first win in nine league games with a 2-1 home success over Bournemouth.
