Kevin Hogan - The Nationals
BORN and bred in regional Australia, Kevin lives with his wife Karen and three children on a property near Lismore.
After completing an Economics degree Kevin spent over 10 years in Sydney forging a successful career in finance, working for Colonial for many years.
When the time came to raise a family Kevin and Karen moved back to the Northern Rivers.
Kevin took up teaching at St Mary's High School in Casino, teaching Business Studies and serving, for a time, as Deputy Principal.
He operated a small business and runs a cattle property.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Historically, my kids are my spare time, hanging out with them as much as I can. I play tennis every Thursday night with mates to try and stay fit as well.
Mark Ellis - Liberal Democrats
MR ELLIS was educated at Canberra Grammar School, Dickson College and Canberra College of Advanced Education where he did 2 years of a degree in Applied Science in Computing. Mark has worked as a computer engineer for the last 21 years with a focus on Citrix products.
Mark was in the Army Reserve for 9 years serving in 3RNSWR and 1 Commando Company before going to the Officer Cadet Training School. After graduating he became an infantry officer at 2/17RNSWR.
SPARE TIME: I have an interest in music and I have run a Digital Harmony Recording Studios since 2001.
I am an active sporting shooter doing competitive pistol and target rifle shooting.
Anna Clare Ludvik - Animal Justice Party
MS LUDVIK has been a passionate animal advocate for over 20 years. A qualified solicitor, she has worked with the Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre, Animal Law and Education Project (ALEP) for six years, has been the Regional Member Representative for the NSW Young Lawyers, Animal Law Committee, worked with WSPCA on live export campaigns and currently works in the disability services sector.
SPARE TIME: The dogs and I enjoy being served imaginary tea by my child, in the garden. I love to grow vegetables and be outside in this beautiful region. Spare time is rare these days. I volunteer with many animal organisations on top of work and family commitments.
Kudra Falla-Ricketts - The Greens
BORN and raised on the Northern Rivers and having spent a substantial part of her life living in the Pacific Island nation of Vanuatu, Kudra understands the region and the real significance of climate change and sea level rise very well.
She has participated directly in many campaigns through her involvement with the Australian Youth Climate Coalition, Girls Against Gas, Amnesty international, Northern Rivers Young Greens and various other environmental and human rights organisations.
SPARE TIME: I am generally spending time with my family and friends, going bush walking and exploring around our stunning big scrub remnants. I especially love photographing nature, painting, sculpting and drawing and also play the guitar and the drums.
Bethany Rachael McAlpine - Christian Democratic Party
BETHANY is a second generation Graftonion and has spent two years going to uni in Lismore. She works as a contract cleaner and is a volunteer SRE teacher. Politics has always been part of Bethany's life and she can't remember when she hasn't stood on a polling booth on Election Day.
Ms McAlpine lives and works in Grafton, while attending uni in Lismore. Bethany believes it is vital for young people to be involved in how the country is run. In this election her main concerns are helping local small business operate more freely and obtaining better resources for local mental health.
SPARE TIME: Bethany enjoys creative writing, playing basketball and loves the beach.
Janelle Saffin - Labor
MS SAFFIN has made Lismore her home for more than 40 years.
As an early school leaver, she worked in a variety of jobs across a diversity of workplaces then went on to pursue her teaching qualifications before undertaking her law degree.
Ms Saffin spent time in Timor-Leste as a Special Advisor and a Senior Political Advisor, and was awarded for her voluntary work there.
Janelle's advocacy has always supported her belief that the most vulnerable and disadvantaged should be protected and that democracy should be free and fair for all.
Ms Saffin won Page at the 2007 election and the 2010 election. In 2013 she suffered a 6.7% swing to lose against her Nationals rival, Kevin Hogan.
SPARE TIME: When I get spare time I love going to the movies, walking our three dogs, and spending precious moments with my grandson.
