Metgasco boss calls on government to reverse suspension plan

METGASCO managing director Peter Henderson has called on the NSW Government to "show leadership" and immediately reverse the suspension of its exploration licence.

"It makes no sense for the NSW government to damage business confidence by reacting to activist pressure or to penalise companies that have shown good faith, investing in the state's future," Mr Henderson said yesterday.

"It is time for the NSW government to show leadership and explain why new supplies of gas are needed and to assure those genuinely concerned that the industry is safe and well regulated."

Mr Henderson painted protesters as a minority element, describing the campaign against gas extraction as "misleading" and "defying common sense".

A "relatively small group" including professional protesters wanted to "impose its will" on people and companies over the issue.
