Mosquitoes have been bad in Depot Hill lately, says resident
DEPOT Hill resident Matt Hutt had no idea that his suburb was under threat from Zika virus until his mother arrived at his house this morning.
For around eight years he has lived at his Francis St address, about 450m from The Globe Hotel, where a Rockhampton man had stayed before being officially diagnosed with the virus.
The disease can be spread if an Aedes aegypti mosquito bites an infected person and becomes infected itself.

Lennie Hutt said she heard about the health authorities' concerns on the radio this morning, but neither of them had seen any spraying in their area so far.
Matt said he wasn't too concerned, although he was sure the planned spray of the area would contain the problem.
"The mosquitoes have been quite bad here at the moment," he said.
"I haven't seen anybody spraying, but I work all day … I'm sure they'll get on top of it."
He said they don't have any stagnant water or other areas where mosquitoes can breed, but would be extra vigilant.
Lennie said she expected areas around the lagoon to see an increase in mosquitoes with the recent wet weather.
Queensland's Acting Chief Health Officer Dr Sonya Bennett said today they will initiate a public health declaration which will allow them to spray in the yards of homes and businesses in a 200m radius of The Globe Hotel.
