One of our worst roads will be 'rehabilitated'

ONE of the worst Lismore roads, as voted by our readers, is in the middle of receiving a $700,000 upgrade.

The six-week road rehabilitation project on Wyrallah Rd will create traffic delays near the Tucki Tucki cemetery, north of Leslie Ln.

And it won't be the end of improvements for that notorious stretch of road, with another 16.5km to be rehabilitated or resurfaced.

Within the financial year 5.6km of resurfacing work will take place south of Tucki Tucki cemetery.

Resurfacing includes patching a road and putting a new bitumen seal over the existing road.

A Lismore City Council spokesperson said about 500m of the section south of Broadwater Rd will be resurfaced in the coming year, but the rest is in disrepair and will need rehabilitation.

That will take place within the next four years.

Road rehabilitation involves taking the bitumen off the top, adding more gravel and sealing the surface, is in the pipeline but may be several years off.

Wyrallah Rd in its entirety extends about 32km.
