Power lines brought down in North Mackay crash
TEN police officers were involved in the search for a driver who allegedly left the scene of a crash in North Mackay yesterday afternoon.
The crash occurred about 2.30pm at the intersection of of Burgess and Malcomson Sts.
Mackay police Acting Senior Sergeant Adrian Geary said a man driving a Toyota Hilux allegedly crashed into the rear of a hatchback which was parked near the intersection.
Acting Snr Sgt Geary said it appeared the driver had then reversed into a power pole, which had brought a live war to the ground, before leaving the scene.
A man, who was arrested a short while later in Green St, had tested positive to a roadside breath test, and had been taken to Mackay Base Hospital for a blood test, he said.
The man had not been charged last night.
"We are still investigating.
"It is unknown how many people were involved in the crash and if the driver was licensed," he said.
The forensic crash unit and dog squad were both called to the scene after the crash, Acting Snr Sgt Geary said.
Ergon Energy and Mackay Regional Council crews were also at the scene.
The power was switched off, causing traffic lights in the area to stop working.
Acting Snr Sgt Geary said the driver had no obvious injuries.
