Pippa Middleton gives celeb watchers the slip in NT

PIPPA Middleton and her new husband James Matthews have given royal watchers the slip as they continue their luxury honeymoon somewhere in the Northern Territory.

The pair flew into Darwin on Thursday afternoon from Sydney. But the visit was brief, and they left in a small charter plane half an hour later.

It's not known exactly where they have chosen to spend their honeymoon. It's expected they would choose one of the Top End's luxury safari experiences, such as Bamurru Plains Lodge.

Located just west of Kakadu, Bamurru Plains would allow Pippa and James to get the wild Territory experience without having to slum it with composting dunnies or worry about common folk photobombing their holiday selfies.

The entire lodge appears to be booked solid for the weekend.

Its most expensive room, "the Kingfisher suite" allows guests to get close to nature and frighten the local wildlife with a shower with floor to ceiling views across the floodplain.

Honeymooners are offered "an intimate in-room candlelit dinner with only the sounds of the bush as company."

The suite comes with a price tag of up to $2700 a night - small change for billionaire James and his new bride.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner speculated that Pippa's older sister Kate must have given the NT a glowing review.

"I can understand why Pippa and James chose the Top End dry season for their honeymoon; the Territory's open spaces and 60,000 years of continuous culture - it's the perfect antidote to a London 'summer'," he said.

"I welcome them to visit any of our world famous natural wonders, like Kakadu or Nitmuluk national parks. I hope they also get to see the sights of Darwin, and I'm happy to shout them a laksa at Parap Markets this Saturday."

NT Tourism and Culture chief executive Alastair Shields said the arrival of the almost-royals was a "wonderfully unexpected endorsement" of the Territory's appeal to international travellers.

"We have no doubt Pippa's visit will boost the profile of the Territory," he said.

Pippa's Territory jaunt has also boosted the profile - and sales - of designer Orla Kiely.

The $370 Seinfeld-esque puffy shirt from the designer Pippa was wearing when she arrived in Darwin on Thursday has sold out online.
