Queen hopefuls wanted as town gears up for Beef Week

CASINO is looking for its next Beef Week Queen to represent rural women in the area.

Women passionate about the region and rural lifestyle are invited to apply.

The queen and all entrants will enjoy a full week of meeting new people and getting involved in major events during the 11-day festival starting May 21.

The promotions committee president, Stuart George, said it was a busy week for the candidates but it gave them the opportunity to see how Beef Week operated.

“They would, for example, do a presentation to the winners of the art show, they’ll be involved at the breakfast, the races (and) cattle competition,” he said.

This year’s theme is Around the World, which gives everyone a chance to find their favourite thing from all over and share it as part of the Window and Staff Dress Up Competition.

“It’s a broad theme, but it (allows) everyone, from kids to shops, to do something from across the world that will be appreciated by the community,” Mr George said.

All the usual events will run this year, with a bit of fine tuning to a few newer ones.

“We’re still putting emphasis on the cattle industry events, so we started a few events last year and we’ll fine tune them,” he said.

“For example, (at) the beef expo on the Saturday we’ll be doing that but fine-tuned.”

The wider community can also get involved by helping out with events and tasks throughout Beef Week.

“We’re always looking for volunteers and we’ll gladly accept anyone interested,” Mr George said.
