WATCH: alarming CCTV footage of early morning ram raid

UPDATE, 2.20pm:  POLICE are calling for anyone with information about a robbery at a Ballina shopping centre to contact Crime Stoppers.

Police will allege a car was used to ram raid Ballina Fair on Kerr St about 5.30am on Tuesday.

The occupant/s of the vehicle then stole an amount of jewellery from the Gem Array Jewellery store inside the shopping centre, before the vehicle fled the scene.

Officers from Richmond Police District established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation.

Anyone who may have noticed any suspicious behaviour in the area around that time or who may have dashcam footage is urged to contact Ballina Police Station on 66 818 699 or to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

UPDATE, 11.15am: THE Ballina jewellery store that was broken into this morning will be "closed for some time", while investigations continue.

Posting on social media, Gem Array at Ballina Fair said staff have been able to access the store following the robbery.

"We have now been able to get inside our shop," the post stated.

"We will remain closed for some time.

"Please be reassured that all customers repairs and lay-buys are all safe.

"Stock that was stolen is shop stock."

UPDATE, 8.30am: THE jewellery business which was broken into at Ballinia Fair this morning has released a comment on social media.

"Earlier this morning the southern door at Ballina Fair was ram raided and unfortunately our store was broken into," the post said..

"Police are currently on site investigating.

"At present, we do not have access to our store, we appreciate your patience and understanding at this time."

 

UPDATE, 8.05am: RICHMOND Police District Inspector Susie Johnston said the ram raid at Ballina Fair occurred at 5.20am this morning.

"I can confirm we had a car ram raid and it entered the southern side of Ballina Fair, has gone into the property and smashed into a jewellers," she said.

"At the moment we have a crime scene with a forensic crew and detectives who are examining the scene.

"The detectives are examining forensic evidence."

Insp Johnston said they were also speaking with witnesses.

"If anyone has any information we urge them to call Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000," she said.

"At this stage police are still assessing what was stolen."

The southern entrance of Ballina Fair had undergone a major renovation and only recently reopened to the public.
