Sam Newman in another fight over political correctness
CONTROVERSY continues to follow Sam Newman, with the Footy Show host involved in an ugly feud with Geelong superstar Patrick Dangerfield.
The war of words between the pair erupted last week, with Dangerfield labelling Newman 'irrelevant' following insensitive comments the 71-year-old had made about Caitlyn Jenner.
Dangerfield was asked about Newman's comments on radio the following day.
"From my point of view I just think he (Newman) is irrelevant," Dangerfield said on Kiss FM.
"The show itself, apart from Bec (Rebecca Maddern), who is wonderful, I haven't watched it for a while now and I just think Sam was well off the mark and well out of line.
"It's been a history. It's been something that has been happening for such a long period of time and they will continue to run with it because it will continue to rate.
"It will be interesting to see what happens come the end of the season."
Newman was far from impressed with Dangerfield's comments, launching an attack on the Geelong star in the opening segment of Thursday's show.
Newman accused Dangerfield of being sexist and ageist before daring him to make similar comments to him face-to-face.
"I took a bit of a belting from Pat Dangerfield. Now Pat had a crack at me on the radio. Join the queue if you want to have a go at me. I think it stops at Ballarat," Newman said.
"Pat, please, if you're going to have a go at me for not understanding the era of political correctness we live in, don't call me old. I don't mind if you call me old but that is an ageist comment and it reflects badly on people in the workforce who are my age.
"You said the only person you watch the show for is this woman here (Maddern). That is sexist in itself.
"Let's be consistent, instead of coming on here like a perfume dwarf and thinking that if you act like a ventriloquist's dummy, that will cut the mustard here, it won't.
"If you want to have a go at me or say something to me, come and sit on that desk there and do it to my face."
Newman finished his rant by apologising to Dangerfield because he knew he (Newman) "will regret this in the morning".
Newman started the episode by also apologising for his comments about Jenner.
