Scenario testing taking place at new Byron hospital

NORTHERN NSW Local Health District (NNSW LHD) is continuing to conduct scenario testing and make final adjustments at the newly completed Byron Central Hospital (BCH).

NNSW LHD Chief Executive Wayne Jones said the commissioning phase of the hospital had identified an issue within the internal messaging system that needed to be addressed prior to opening to patients.

“Throughout construction the opening date of the new BCH was June 2016, and we are confident that we will meet that deadline,” he said.

“It’s important we bed down these minor teething issues before patients are admitted, ensuring they receive nothing but the best health care in this brand new facility.”

The new purpose built $88 million BCH features a range of clinical enhancements including expanded Emergency Department facilities, more inpatient beds, larger maternity unit, 20-bed sub-acute Mental Health Unit, and enhanced medical imaging including CT scanning and Ultrasound.

“I wish to thank the staff for their ongoing commitment and dedication in preparing the new hospital in readiness for your patients,” Mr Jones said.
