School bus crashes into power pole
TWO thousand homes lost power after a school bus crashed into a power pole in Bilambil Heights on Thursday morning.
Essential Energy spokesperson Rachel Hussell said a crew was still working on the situation as of 10.30am.
Ms Hussell said the bus hit the power pole on the corner of Scenic Dr and Warringa Dr about 8.15.
"The bus snapped the pole, bringing the pole and wires down," Ms Hussell said.
She said 2,000 residences were initially without power.
All but two of those had their power restored within 15 minutes.
A SCHOOL bus crashed into a power pole in Bilambil Heights on Thursday morning.
Tweed/Byron LAC Inspector Gary Cowan said the incident occurred on the corner of Scenic Dr and Warringa Dr just after 8am.
Insp Cowan said there were eighteen children on board at the time.
He said after the collision, the powerlines came down onto the bus, but no one was harmed.
A Fire and Rescue media spokeswoman said fire crews were called to the incident just before 8.15.
It is understood there was a power outage in Bilambil Heights as a result.
