Marine Rescue trying to confirm North Wall shark sighting

UPDATE 10.25am: A JOGGER on Ballina's North Wall reported a shark sighting to police about 9.30am this morning but the sighting remains unconfirmed.

Ballina police sergeant Dave Longfield said the Ballina Marine Rescue vessel was endeavouring to confirm the sighting.

Sgt Longfield said the witness couldn't estimate the size but it was understood the shark was spotted from the end of the wall.

The Department of Primary Industries shark tagging team is also currently engaged in shark tagging off Angels Beach, about one kilometre north.

INITIAL REPORT: IF you were planning on a surf today, it might be best to steer clear of Lighthouse Beach.

The Shark Reports Facebook page says there has been a shark sighting at North Wall.

Shark Reports says a jogger spotted a shark near the wall just before 10am today. No details are available on the size or variety of the shark.

The Northern Star is currently seeking confirmation of the sighting with Ballina police.
