Lennox nippers sign-on Sunday for summer at Lake Ainsworth

NIPPERS sign-on will be held at the Lennox Head Alstonville Surf Life Saving Club on Sunday, marking the start of the 2015/16 season.

The club is now in its 42nd year of operation.

Organisers have advised that, due to ongoing concerns about the shark situation and safety, water events will be held in Lake Ainsworth until further notice.

The surf club offers a comprehensive junior nippers program and also hosts the iconic Dolphin Enduro event.

Sunday's sign-on is from 9am until 1pm, with the program starting on October 11.

It's for children aged between 5 and 14.

Junior activities coordinator Samantha Miller said volunteer age managers teach children surf awareness skills, running, swimming and board paddling.

"At our club, everyone is made to feel welcome, and participation is strongly encouraged," she said.

"While the club prides itself on its growing reputation for sporting excellence, we place a greater emphasis on sportsmanship and simply having a go.

"It's all about having fun in a safe environment, learning new skills and developing an appreciation of outdoor fitness."

Entries are now open for the Dolphin Enduro event on October 17 for competitors aged 10-17.

Ms Miller said it was the region's premier junior lifesaving endurance event with swim, board and run legs.
